The Bergland Ski Trail is located just one mile north of Bergland, off M-64. Scenic hardwoods and pockets of hemlock provide the backdrop for a 3.2 mile ski trail. You may find yourself sharing the trail with white-tailed deer as the hemlock provides thermal cover for them along with a variety of other fur bearing mammals and wintering songbirds.

An auxiliary trail loop of 3.4 miles in length adds hills and short slopes of medium difficulty for the skier on the Bergland Ski Trail.   The trail is groomed weather permitting, and the skier should call the Ontonagon Ranger District for a current grooming report.  This is a very picturesque trail that is well marked.  It is rare to see anyone else using this trail when you are there.

If you can say Agonikak Loop Trail, you'll enjoy skiing the five mile trail located at the Watersmeet Visitor Center off U.S. 2 and U.S. 45. The trail winds through hardwoods on snow covered logging roads with rolling hills, several slopes, and a small trail bridge crossing peaceful Duck Creek. For updated skiing conditions, call the Watersmeet Ranger District.

Just west of Watersmeet on U.S. 2 the Sylvania Outfitters also grooms 20 miles of trail across the Ottawa National Forest with loops that can be used for skijoring and snowshoeing as well.

Other winter recreation opportunities for the snowshoer, dog sledder and cross country skier exist across the Ottawa  for all those desiring a more remote experience of breaking trail through one of three backwoods wilderness areas on the Ottawa, as well as breaking trail across hundreds of miles of unplowed roads within the forest boundary.
